28,000 Financial Jobs Added in February

The financial industry added 28,000 jobs in February, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Economic Situation Report released on Friday, March 9, 2018.

“Financial employment gains jumped from 8,000 jobs in December and January, to 28,000 in February,“ said Jay Rollins, owner of FinancialJobsWeb.com, a leading career site specializing in financial job postings. “Over the last 12 months, the financial industry has added 137,000 jobs.”

Employment in the financial activities supersector, which includes employment data from the finance and insurance sector and the real estate, rental and leasing sector, now sits at 8,547,000 employed persons with an unemployment rate of 2.2 percent. “Over the past year, unemployment has averaged 2.24 percent,” said Rollins.

Within the financial activities supersector, the finance and insurance sector added 20,400 jobs in February with an unemployment rate of 2.1 percent. Over the last 12 months, the sector added 80,700 jobs.

Real estate, rental and leasing added 7,200 jobs in February with an unemployment rate of 2.5 percent. Over the last 12 months, the sector has added 61,600 jobs.

Across all industries, total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 313,000 jobs in February. Unemployment remained at 4.1 percent for the fifth consecutive month, and the number of unemployed persons was unchanged at 6.7 million.
