The Role
Fidelity Charitable is looking for a Director of Email Engineering to lead the team responsible for building sophisticated, high-impact communications for donors, financial advisors, and nonprofit organizations. This is a rare opportunity to shape the email marketing strategy of one of the largest grantmakers in the United States, where your work directly supports the movement of billions of dollars to charitable causes.
You will lead and develop a team of email engineers while maintaining hands-on involvement in complex campaign builds, translating business requirements into advanced audience segmentation and personalization strategies, and architecting sophisticated customer journeys within Salesforce Marketing Cloud. You will serve as the primary technical liaison between marketing operations and business stakeholders, ensuring that campaign execution aligns with organizational strategy and compliance standards.
You will develop and maintain a technology roadmap that balances innovation with operational excellence, and champion deliverability, data integrity, and email best practices across the organization.
The Expertise and Skills You Bring
- 7+ years of Salesforce Marketing Cloud experience, with at least 3 years in a people leadership role
- Engineering leadership: Proven ability to lead technical teams while staying actively involved in development, architecture decisions, and hands-on campaign builds
- SFMC platform expertise: Advanced proficiency across Email Studio, Journey Builder, Automation Studio, Contact Builder, and Data Designer, including complex journey logic, AMPscript, SSJS, and CloudPages development
- Data and development skills: Advanced SQL for data flows and integrations; hands-on experience with SFMC REST and SOAP APIs; proven ability to connect Marketing Cloud with CRM and third-party platforms including Splash, ON24, and Cvent
- Deliverability and compliance: Comprehensive knowledge of email deliverability, authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC), compliance frameworks (CAN-SPAM, CCPA, GDPR), and testing platforms including Litmus and Validity
- Analytics and optimization: Proficiency in A/B and multivariate testing; strong analytical skills using SFMC Analytics, Intelligence Reports, and custom dashboards
- Team leadership: Track record of developing email engineers, designing upskilling programs, managing performance, and building high-performing team cultures
- Stakeholder communication: Skilled at translating complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences and presenting strategic recommendations to senior leadership
- Operational excellence: Expert prioritization, capacity planning, root cause analysis, and clear trade-off decision-making
- • Experience with enterprise-scale SFMC in regulated or compliance-driven environments, including business unit hierarchy and governance
- Salesforce Marketing Cloud certifications (Email Specialist, Consultant, or Developer) are a plus
- Experience with Adobe Workfront or a comparable project management platform is preferred
