EY-Parthenon - Strategy and Execution - Software Strategy Group -Senior Associate-Consultant
The opportunity
EY-Parthenon's unique combination of transformative strategy, transactions and corporate finance delivers real-world value - solutions that work in practice, not just on paper. Benefiting from EY's full spectrum of services, we've reimagined strategic consulting to work in a world of increasing complexity.
With deep functional and sector expertise, paired with innovative AI-powered technology and an investor mindset, we partner with CEOs, Boards, Private Equity and Governments every step of the way - enabling you to shape your future with confidence.
Within EY-Parthenon's Strategy and Execution sub service line, our Software Strategy Group provides top-tier investment and acquisition guidance, strategy, value creation, and transaction advisory for the software sector. Every year we help hundreds of software companies and investors make crucial business decisions. On every engagement, you will work alongside our team of former CTOs and CEOs with deep software expertise to learn from the best.
Your key responsibilities
As a Senior Associate-Consultant with EY-Parthenon's Strategy and Execution Software Strategy Group, you will be responsible for leading workstreams and engagements, directly translating client needs into project tasks and deliverables. You will manage problem-solving and be the power behind the team's analytical activities, serving as the key liaison between the engagement team, senior leaders, and our clients.
Skills and attributes for success
- Develop business strategies using tools such as financial analysis, customer research, forecasting, and portfolio optimization.
- Analyze transaction rationale and prospective deal documents to identify critical business issues and risks relating to a proposed transaction.
- Identify value creation opportunities both top-line and bottom-line across the various functions of a software economy organization.
- Manage workstreams and break down complex problems into manageable tasks for the team to contribute to solving together as a group.
- Motivate teams with diverse skills and backgrounds.
- Develop, manage, and mentor junior team members.
Our team is unique in its leadership position in the market. We are the most scaled team serving large-cap private equity from diligence through value creations in all areas from commercial, product, technology, growth strategy, and value creation. We do that through our broad and deep training program, strong culture, and commitment to teamwork and continuous learning at all levels of the organization.
While we look for people who can excel in more than one category, most professionals will develop a "major" where they will spend approximately 75% of their time, and a "minor" where they will spend about 25% of their time.
Members of our team focus on one or more tracks:
- Commercial Diligence/Strategy: Assessment of markets, industries, and companies from a market perspective.
- Product/Technology: Assessment and strategy related to products and technology of an industry or company.
- Value Creation: Assessment and strategy related to value creation opportunities - both top line (sales and marketing) and bottom line (operations, R&D, COGS, etc.).
To qualify for the role, you must have
- Outstanding academic performance, with a bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of related work experience; or a graduate degree and approximately 18 months of related work experience.
- Ability to make detailed assessments of industry, products, markets, competitors and customers to identify risks and opportunities.
- Proficient in the English language, including the ability to listen, understand, read and communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, in a professional environment.
- Strong quantitative skills including the ability to model complex financials and/or markets.
- Effective organization and time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure and adhere to project deadlines.
- You must either reside in or be in a commutable distance to your office location for this position.
- Our SSG team members are in the office 3-4 days a week.
- The ability and willingness to travel and work in excess of standard hours when necessary. In certain circumstances, travel may be required beyond your work location based on client and project needs.
- MBA or related graduate degree with at least 18 months of post-graduate-school related work experience in a consulting firm, preferably with technology-oriented clients, or experience in a software or technology company in a product or R&D-focused role.
- Expertise in (as a consultant or an employee) one or more software sectors (horizontal software, vertical market software, infrastructure software, software-enabled business services).
- Excellent problem solving, project management, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Meaningful coursework in computer science, data science, or engineering, and/or meaningful work experience related to the same
- Knowledge of how to leverage firm-approved AI tools in a business setting, including Microsoft Copilot.
We're looking for dynamic problem-solvers who thrive in an ever-changing environment. If you can connect business strategy to results and love working with both numbers and narratives, you're the one we need.
Our ideal candidate is a clear communicator and a great listener. Flexibility is a must - you need to adapt to changing requirements and deadlines to support our clients. If new technologies and exploring the software world excite you, and you have a thirst for learning, you'll fit right in. We value curious minds ready to innovate.
