Skills & Competencies
- Ideally 10+ years of experience providing substantial credit analysis with strong technical skills in accounting and financial statement analysis
- Fundamental knowledge of higher education and nonprofit organizations preferred, including healthcare systems supporting academic medical centers
- Strong quantitative aptitude with proven analytical skills and sound credit judgment
- Solid understanding of capital structures, debt documentation, and rating committee processes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate clear, insightful, and forward-looking credit views
- Ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships and represent the Moody's brand with credibility and integrity
- An innovative mindset: Proficiency in artificial intelligence and/or big data concepts is strongly preferred, ideally with hands-on experience using AI tools to streamline workflows and enhance operational efficiency
Education
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
Responsibilities
This role is responsible for delivering high-quality, forward-looking credit analysis and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of ratings for a portfolio of higher education and nonprofit issuers.
- Manage a portfolio of public and private colleges and universities, museums, research institutes, and other nonprofit organizations, ensuring timely and accurate ratings through rigorous credit analysis
- Analyze key credit factors including competitive position, financial performance, wealth and liquidity, capital structure, and ESG considerations in a dynamic operating environment
- Present credit analysis and rating recommendations to rating committees with clarity, confidence, and sound judgment
- Build strong rapport with senior management teams and engage regularly with investors, intermediaries, and media to communicate credit views and market insights
- Publish topical, transparent, and forward-looking research on issuers, sectors, and cross-sector credit themes
- Navigate and succeed amid frequent technological advancements and other forms of change in a fast‑moving environment
- Collaborate effectively across teams and contribute to an inclusive exchange of perspectives while coaching and developing junior analysts
- Uphold the highest standards of professional integrity, transparency, and fairness in all internal and external interactions
About the Team
Within Moody's Investors Service, the US Public Finance Group is responsible for the fundamental credit analysis that underpins the monitoring of existing debt ratings and the assignment of new ratings for public and private sector issuers in the municipal finance arena. The team is known for its rigorous analytical standards, collaborative culture, and commitment to delivering trusted credit insights that support market transparency and informed decision-making.
For US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is $198,300.00-$287,550.00, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for incentive compensation. Moody's also offers a competitive benefits package, including not but limited to medical, dental, vision, parental leave, paid time off, a 401(k) plan with employee and company contribution opportunities, life, disability, and accident insurance, a discounted employee stock purchase plan, and tuition reimbursement.
