The IT Project Manager in Retirement Plan Services Engineering plays a critical role in planning, coordinating, and delivering technology initiatives that support Schwab's modernization strategy. This position ensures projects are executed on time, within scope, and aligned with business priorities. The IT PM will partner with engineering leaders, product owners, and stakeholders to drive project governance, manage risks, and enable successful delivery of modernization efforts. This role would also be responsible for Test coordination, planning, defect management & Quality Assurance, Drive continuous improvement in testing processes, Stakeholder Communication & Reporting, Mentor and guide QA engineers and testers.
This role offers enterprise-level visibility, exposure to strategic programs, and opportunities to influence Schwab's digital transformation. Candidates will work in a collaborative environment, leveraging Agile/SAFe practices and modern project management tools to support initiatives focused on automation, cloud adoption, and operational excellence.
What you have
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Project Management, Business Administration, or a related field
- 8+ years of progressive experience in IT project management within enterprise environments
- 5+ years experience managing technology projects involving modernization, cloud adoption, or large-scale system implementations
- Proven experience working in Agile/SAFe frameworks, facilitating ceremonies, and driving iterative delivery
- Strong background in risk management, governance, and stakeholder communication
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and modernization concepts
- Understanding of DevOps principles, CI/CD pipelines, and automation practices
- Proficiency with project management tools (Jira, Rally, MS Project) and reporting dashboards
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Exposure to collaboration platforms like Confluence, SharePoint, and Teams
- Hands-on experience with test management tools (e.g., Jira, Rally, Azure DevOps, TestRail) and defect tracking systems
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience managing technology projects involving modernization, cloud adoption, or large-scale system implementations.
- Advanced Project Management and Test coordination Expertise
- PMP, SAFe Agilist, Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), ISTQB, CSTE
- Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) or SAFe Agilist for Agile/SAFe environments
- Ability to manage complex, multi-workstream technology projects with enterprise impact
- Skilled in balancing scope, schedule, and budget while maintaining quality standards
- Experience facilitating Agile ceremonies and driving adoption of SAFe practices across teams
- Familiarity with modernization concepts, including cloud migration, API integration, and DevOps practices
- Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automation tools
- Exceptional ability to influence and negotiate with senior stakeholders
- Skilled in creating clear, concise project documentation and executive-level reporting
- Expertise in identifying risks, managing dependencies, and ensuring compliance with governance frameworks
