Description
Your OpportunityDirector, Marketing & Communications - Strategic Accounts
At Schwab, you're empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us "challenge the status quo" and transform the finance industry together.
We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location(s) 4 days a week.
We're hiring for an exciting opportunity within Schwab's Workplace Marketing organization, on the Participant Marketing Specialized Communications team. This team is focused on creating better financial outcomes for participants (employees of our corporate clients) by taking the mystery out of investing, and making it accessible to everyone regardless of experience, age, interest, or income.
Who we are:
The Director, Marketing & Communications - Strategic Accounts will report to the Director, Participant Marketing Specialized Communications within the broader Workplace Marketing organization. This team helps turn workplace (retirement and stock plan) benefits into something people understand, value, and use. We strip away the jargon and create engaging experiences that people connect with-helping them make the most of what they've earned so they can invest wisely, live better, and retire well. When we do our jobs well, good things happen. More people make the most of their retirement and equity plans. More are engaged at work. And more see Schwab as a trusted partner in their financial life.
The Director, Marketing & Communications - Strategic Accounts is a high-impact, highly visible, client-facing people leader responsible for developing and delivering integrated marketing and communication programs for Workplace participants at our largest, most complex (mega) clients. This role will have four direct reports and will partner directly with clients and internal stakeholders to ensure strategies and experiences are aligned to participants' financial needs, goals, and expectations.
By advancing Schwab's Through Clients' Eyes approach, this leader plays a critical role in driving positive participant outcomes while supporting broader organizational growth objectives. The Director collaborates closely with partners across Marketing, Strategy, Digital, Client Experience, and senior leadership to align priorities, manage execution, and deliver consistent, high-quality experiences. The role also collaborates with creative agency partners to bring client and participant experiences to life at scale.
A typical day in this role might include leading with an accessible, supportive style and a clear, forward-looking perspective, helping the team think bigger and execute with confidence.
You'll join leadership discussions to align on new initiatives, gather input from marketing and relationship partners to identify gaps in existing communications, and lead executive conversations to secure support for recommended solutions. You'll also explore best practices across Schwab and activate marketing projects-mobilizing the right resources across the team to deliver high-quality execution. The opportunity to partner with relationship teams to deliver a strategic marketing vision and annual plan for our largest, most demanding clients-while designing for scalability-is what makes this role especially compelling.
Key responsibilities include:
- Strategic Client Leadership: Build and nurture strong, long-term relationships with client stakeholders, serving as a trusted marketing advisor and thought partner in close collaboration with the broader relationship management team. Lead marketing strategy for Schwab's largest and most complex Workplace clients. Serve as a trusted advisor, translating client business objectives into participant-focused marketing strategies. Partner with relationship and sales teams to develop annual marketing plans and ongoing campaign strategies.
- Strategic Marketing Vision & Planning: Lead development of comprehensive, annual marketing strategies for large, complex clients, establishing clear objectives, KPIs, and success metrics aligned to client business goals and Schwab priorities. Oversee development and delivery of integrated marketing programs (email, digital, content, webinars, and client-specific campaigns).
- Marketing Thought Leadership & Subject Matter Expertise: Develop deep expertise in Schwab's Workplace participant audiences, experiences, and business objectives-establishing yourself as a go-to marketing expert, consultant, and internal and external thought leader.
- Team Leadership & Development: Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team (~4 direct reports). Set clear expectations regarding performance, accountability, and delivery standards. Help shape team structure and future hiring to support long-term scalability. Foster a culture of ownership, adaptability, and continuous improvement.
- Participant-Centered Strategy Translation: Translate client business goals and priorities into participant-facing marketing and communications strategies that drive engagement, confidence, and in-plan success outcomes.
- Insights-Driven Optimization: Continually elevate marketing and communication experiences through audience insights, competitive intelligence, data and performance analytics, client and partner feedback, and a test-and-learn approach. Use data, audience insights, and performance metrics to inform decisions and improve outcomes.
- Cross-Functional & Stakeholder Leadership: Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and leaders at all levels-including Marketing, Digital, Client Experience, Strategy, and Leadership-to gain alignment, drive prioritization, and secure buy-in on strategic direction. Navigate a matrixed environment with multiple stakeholders and indirect inputs; collaborate with agency partners to elevate creative and executional quality.
- Holistic Delivery Oversight: Drive a holistic view of marketing delivery, incorporating stakeholder perspectives, client feedback, and partner input to ensure solutions meet strategic intent and executional excellence.
- Financial & Portfolio Management: Oversee campaign and program budgets, track financial performance and profitability, and manage investment trade-offs across a portfolio of initiatives.
- Creative & Agency Oversight: Partner with creative and production teams and oversee agency relationships to ensure concepts, messaging, and deliverables align to client objectives, briefs, and brand standards.
- Program & Initiative Leadership: Proactively and autonomously manage a portfolio of large, complex initiatives to completion in a matrixed, fast-paced, and high-change environment.
