Wealth and Advice Solutions Technology (WAS Technology) is a strategic technology organization supporting Schwab's Wealth, Advisory, Banking, and Trust Services business. Our mission is to deliver innovative technology solutions that empower financial consultants, advisors, and clients through differentiated digital experiences and personalized financial guidance.
As a Director, Wealth Management Engineering, you will play a critical leadership role in shaping the future of technology supporting Schwab's high-net-worth (HNW) and ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) client experiences. You will lead multiple engineering teams responsible for delivering modern, scalable, and resilient platforms that enable advisors to serve clients more effectively while advancing Schwab's long-term technology strategy.

Position Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
- Define and execute technology strategies that align with Wealth and Advice business objectives and long-term growth goals.
- Partner closely with Wealth Management, Advisory Services, Banking, and Trust business leaders to develop innovative technology solutions that enhance advisor and client experiences.
- Shape multi-year technology roadmaps supporting platform modernization, scalability, resiliency, and operational excellence.
- Influence enterprise architecture, engineering standards, and technology investment decisions.
- Lead multiple engineering managers and software development teams responsible for mission-critical wealth management platforms.
- Drive consistent, predictable, and high-quality software delivery through modern engineering practices, automation, AI-enabled development capabilities, and continuous improvement.
- Champion cloud-native architecture, DevSecOps adoption, CI/CD automation, and platform engineering best practices.
- Oversee delivery of client- and advisor-facing capabilities through the software development lifecycle within a scaled agile environment.
- Build, develop, and mentor high-performing engineering leaders and teams.
- Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, inclusion, and continuous learning.
- Drive succession planning, leadership development, and organizational effectiveness across the engineering organization.
- Create an environment where teams are empowered to solve complex business and technology challenges.
- Lead the adoption and delivery of Generative AI, Agentic AI, and emerging technology capabilities that improve customer and advisor experiences.
- Drive platform modernization initiatives leveraging cloud-native, containerized, and event-driven architectures.
- Evaluate industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive insights to influence technology strategy and business outcomes.
What you have
Required Qualifications:
- 12+ years of progressive software engineering and technology leadership experience.
- 5+ years leading engineering managers and large-scale software engineering organizations.
- Demonstrated experience leading leaders in complex, matrixed organizations.
- Experience supporting Wealth Management, Financial Advisory, Brokerage, Custody, Trust Services, or FinTech businesses.
- Proven success delivering enterprise-scale distributed and highly scalable applications.
- Experience establishing and executing technology strategy, roadmaps, and engineering transformation initiatives.
- Strong understanding of modern engineering practices including DevSecOps, CI/CD, site reliability, and software quality engineering.
- Ability to guide engineering teams working with technologies such as Java, Spring Framework, APIs, messaging and streaming platforms, relational databases, and cloud-native architectures.
- Experience delivering cloud-hosted, containerized, and microservices-based applications.
- Demonstrated success building high-performing organizations and developing engineering talent.
- Strong executive communication, organizational leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Experience supporting advisor platforms, wealth management technologies, or digital client experiences.
- Experience operating within a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment.
- Experience leading cloud transformation and large-scale modernization programs.
- Knowledge of Generative AI, AI agents, Model Context Protocol (MCP), and AI-enabled engineering practices.
- Strong understanding of wealth management business processes, advisor workflows, and client servicing platforms.
- Track record of driving innovation while balancing operational stability, regulatory requirements, and risk management expectations.
- Demonstrated ability to influence senior executives and lead through organizational change.
- Experience delivering presentations and technology strategy recommendations to executive audiences.
