THE ROLE
We are seeking an accomplished Principal Data Engineer to lead the implementation of our enterprise data strategy. This senior technical leadership role is responsible for building scalable, high-quality data solutions and defining how data engineering is executed across the organization.
As the Principal Data Engineer, you will serve as the technical authority for data engineering, shaping architecture, governance, and the long-term direction of modern data platforms. You will establish engineering excellence standards while remaining hands-on for critical implementations.
This role is ideal for a leader experienced in owning end-to-end delivery and building durable, well-governed platforms that support structured and unstructured data, analytics, and future AI/ML use cases.
The Skills and Expertise You Bring
Core Expertise & Leadership
- Proven experience as a Lead or Principal Data Engineer, owning architecture, delivery, and platform strategy
- Ability to translate business and finance transformation goals into scalable, governed data solutions
- Strong track record establishing engineering standards, controls, and best practices across teams
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Technical Expertise
- Deep hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure data services (Lakehouse, Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks), or similar platforms (e.g., Snowflake)
- Strong expertise in ETL/ELT design, data modeling, and modern data warehousing concepts
- Advanced SQL skills and strong understanding of modern data architectures
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python (preferred)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- Experience supporting finance or enterprise reporting domains
- Familiarity with CI/CD, DevOps, DataOps, and data governance tooling
- Experience modernizing legacy data platforms to cloud-native architectures
- Experience implementing AI/ML solutions on Azure + Fabric
- Experience with enterprise data governance tools such as Microsoft Purview
On this team, you will:
- Lead implementation of the enterprise data strategy and define the target-state architecture using Microsoft Fabric and Azure
- Establish and enforce data engineering best practices, including coding standards, CI/CD, DataOps, and operational controls
- Define engineering excellence controls such as quality gates, observability, and production readiness standards
- Design and oversee enterprise-scale data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, and data models supporting analytics and finance use cases
- Guide teams in building secure, scalable, and reusable lakehouse, warehouse, and semantic models
- Partner with business analysts, architects, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality data solutions
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, communicating technical tradeoffs and recommendations
- Mentor engineers and elevate the organization's overall data engineering maturity
- Ensure solutions meet expectations for performance, reliability, cost efficiency, and scalability
- Oversee monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of production data systems
- Drive modernization of legacy workflows into cloud-native, Fabric-based platforms
