The Internal Audit Department (IAD) plays a critical role in protecting that trust by providing independent, objective assurance and insight that strengthens risk management, governance, and internal controls across the firm.
The Senior Manager, Internal Audit Technology is a key leader responsible for planning and executing complex technology and application audits that support Schwab's corporate and risk management functions. This role partners closely with business and risk leaders, challenges current practices, and helps drive continuous improvement in how we manage risk in a rapidly evolving technology landscape.
What You'll Do
In this role, you will apply your technical expertise, critical thinking, and leadership skills to deliver high-impact audits and insights. You will:
Lead and Execute Technology & Application Audits
- Plan, direct, and oversee application and technology audit activities, ensuring alignment with professional auditing standards and internal methodologies
- Evaluate automated controls, system configurations, data integrity, interfaces, and key technology-enabled business processes
- Adapt audit scope, timelines, and resourcing to address emerging risks and business priorities
Deliver Risk-Based Insights
- Identify, assess, and clearly articulate technology risks and control gaps
- Evaluate the effectiveness of management's risk assessments and control activities
- Review and validate issue observations and management action plans to ensure practical, sustainable remediation
Collaborate and Influence
- Lead discussions with business partners, risk functions, and senior stakeholders
- Build trusted relationships with internal teams, regulators, and external co-sourcing partners
- Influence decisions through clear, confident, and inclusive communication
Develop People and Capability
- Provide coaching, feedback, and support to audit team members throughout engagements
- Contribute to onboarding and development of new team members
- Share knowledge of industry trends, regulatory expectations, and leading practices
Support Enterprise and Department Initiatives
- Participate in annual risk assessment activities and audit universe updates
- Contribute to department-wide initiatives, strategic projects, and process improvements
- Support regulatory examinations and validation of management remediation efforts
What you have
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in internal audit, IT audit, technology risk, or a related field
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex audits or projects in a regulated, technology-driven environment
- Demonstrated experience leading internal audits and their associated team members, amongst a complex operational and regulatory environment
- Strong knowledge of technology risks, internal controls, application controls and governance frameworks
- Ability to assess information objectively, identify patterns, and translate findings into clear insights
- Effective communication and relationship-building skills across diverse stakeholders
- Bachelor's degree required
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in financial services, risk management, or a highly regulated industry
- Professional certifications such as CPA, CIA, CISA, CFE, or similar
- Experience partnering with co-sourcing providers
