This role provides centralized visibility into application performance across multiple platforms by leveraging enterprise performance testing and observability tools. The Senior Software Engineer - Performance Engineering partners closely with application and SRE teams to identify performance risks and ensure they are clearly understood and addressed by the appropriate owners. This position plays a critical role in protecting client experience by proactively detecting performance degradation across pre-production and production environments.

Performance Testing & Validation - Design and execute load, stress, and scalability testing across the CMS ecosystem (Classic CMS, Drupal, Next.js, and Content APIs) to identify performance risks prior to release.
Production Performance Monitoring & Observability - Monitor and analyze real-user and system performance using enterprise observability tools (e.g., Splunk, Akamai mPulse , ThousandEyes , Vercel Insights) to detect degradation and understand client impact.
Frontend Performance Monitoring - Track and report on frontend performance metrics, including Core Web Vitals and site responsiveness, to ensure visibility into client experience across web applications.
CDN & Edge Performance Monitoring - Analyze and monitor performance at the CDN and edge layer (e.g., Akamai) to identify latency, caching, and delivery issues impacting end-user experience.
Performance Risk Identification & Reporting - Identify, document, and communicate performance risks, trends, and degradation across environments, ensuring clear visibility to application and platform teams responsible for remediation.
Cross-Team Collaboration & Enablement - Partner with application and SRE teams to provide performance insights and support root cause analysis, while maintaining clear ownership boundaries where remediation resides with the appropriate teams.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in performance engineering, performance testing, or site reliability engineering, with demonstrated experience supporting large-scale, client-facing web platforms
- Hands-on experience designing and executing performance tests using enterprise tools such as LoadRunner, JMeter, BlazeMeter , or equivalent
- Experience monitoring and analyzing application performance in production environments using observability and performance monitoring tools such as Splunk, Akamai mPulse , ThousandEyes , Argus, or similar platforms
- Experience evaluating frontend performance metrics, including tools such as Lighthouse, web performance monitoring tools, or equivalent solutions, with the ability to interpret and report on client experience
- Experience working with CDN and edge delivery platforms, including monitoring performance and identifying issues related to caching, latency, and content delivery (e.g., Akamai or similar technologies)
- Experience supporting modern web application architectures, including API-driven systems and frontend frameworks, with an understanding of end-to-end request flows
- Experience working in Agile development environments, partnering with application and platform teams to assess performance risk and support delivery
- Demonstrated ability to analyze performance data, identify trends, and clearly communicate findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with modern frontend frameworks and platforms, such as Next.js, including familiarity with performance characteristics of server-rendered and client-rendered applications
- Experience with Vercel platform capabilities, including performance insights, observability, or analytics tooling
- Experience supporting enterprise CMS platforms, including Drupal, Classic CMS, or similar content-driven architectures, with an understanding of content lifecycle and delivery performance considerations
- Familiarity with real user monitoring (RUM) and digital experience analytics tools, such as Adobe Analytics, Akamai mPulse , or similar technologies
- Experience working with network performance monitoring and synthetic testing tools, such as ThousandEyes or equivalent platforms
- Experience analyzing and visualizing performance data using reporting tools such as Tableau or similar data visualization platforms
- Exposure to cloud-based and API-driven architectures, including understanding of performance considerations across distributed systems and content delivery pipelines
- Experience supporting large-scale, enterprise digital platforms with multiple concurrent releases and high client traffic volumes
